Gordon, Chicago Wolves Capture AHL Awards

Chicago Wolves president of business operations Mike Gordon has been honored as the American Hockey League’s outstanding executive for the 2012-13 season. Gordon received the James C. Hendy Memorial Award on Wednesday night at a gala reception in Hilton Head Island, S.C. that capped the AHL meetings.

“While the award states ‘Executive of the Year,’ it really should say ‘Executives of the Year,’ ” Gordon said. “Our organization continues to do a great job year-in and year-out and this award represents all of our efforts.”

Since joining the Wolves organization in 2009, Gordon has implemented business strategies that have resulted in increased sponsorship and sales revenues. His involvement in the league’s Team Business Services program has provided other teams the opportunity to use these tactics as best practices in their own organizations. In 2012-13, the Wolves ranked second in the league in attendance averaging 8,230 fans per game. The franchise has finished among the top four in attendance every season since joining the AHL in 2001.

The Wolves also earned an award for providing the most outstanding fan experience in the 15-team Western Conference.

“We are particularly proud of this award,” Gordon said. “We have two organizational goals: to compete for Calder Cup championships and to provide the best sports entertainment value in the Chicago area. This honor acknowledges our thorough presentation that’s geared to please every Wolves fan.”

Earlier this summer, Wolves director of program development Stefanie Starck was honored for being the Western Conference’s No. 1 ticket salesperson. The entire tickets department received recognition for selling 450 new FSEs (full-season equivalent ticket packages) and selling an average of 2,250 group tickets per game.
