Shootout loss drops Wolves' magic number to 2

ROSEMONT, Ill.---Patrick Cehlin’s score in the sixth round of the shootout lifted Milwaukee to a 1-0 victory over the Chicago Wolves in an Amtrak Rivalry classic on Tuesday night at Allstate Arena.

Wolves goaltender Jake Allen (29-16-3) stopped 22 shots in regulation and overtime and four-of-six in the shootout to earn a share of the Wolves single-season record with his sixth shutout. He also seized the American Hockey League lead for shutouts this season.

Milwaukee’s Scott Darling (11-4-2) posted 36 saves in regulation and overtime and stopped five-of-six in the shootout to earn the win and his fifth shutout of the year.

“Their goalie played really well,” said Wolves head coach John Anderson. “They played a smart game, too. They didn’t give us a lot of Grade-A chances. I thought we had a few more chances than them. We just didn’t cash in.”

Keith Aucoin was the only player to tally for the Wolves in the shootout. Mathieu Tousignant joined Cehlin in scoring for the Admirals (33-22-6-7).

Despite the loss, the Wolves’ magic number dropped to 2 points. Chicago (39-20-5-4) will clinch the 16th postseason bid in their 20-year history on Wednesday if Rochester loses in regulation to Syracuse and Hamilton hands Oklahoma City any type of loss.

The Wolves also clinched a share of the Amtrak Rivalry trophy. They own a 15-9 lead in points with three games remaining against Milwaukee.

The Wolves enjoy a pair of games at Allstate Arena this weekend as they host Milwaukee at 7 p.m. Saturday and Iowa at 3 p.m. Sunday. To save money on tickets, call 1-800-THE-WOLVES or visit ChicagoWolves.com.
