Lack Backstops Wolves to 1-0 Shootout Win Over Charlotte

ROSEMONT, Ill.---After the Chicago Wolves and Charlotte Checkers battled through 65 minutes of scoreless hockey, the Wolves grabbed the extra point in the shootout to earn a 1-0 win Saturday night at the Allstate Arena.

Chicago goaltender Eddie Lack (14-12-3) kicked out all 31 shots he faced in regulation and overtime as well as four of six attempts in the shootout to earn his third shutout of the year.

With the win, Chicago (29-18-1-3) moved within three points of

Charlotte (30-18-2-3) for the top spot in the Midwest Division.

“I thought it was a great hockey game between two good teams,” said Wolves head coach Craig MacTavish. “We were finally able to win a shootout and Eddie played unbelievable in net for us.”

After failing to beat Checkers goaltender John Muse (9-2-1) on 32 shots in regulation and overtime, forwards Darren Haydar and Michael Davies and defenseman Kevin Connauton were able to get the puck by Muse in the shootout.

It marked the first time in 218 games that the Wolves went past regulation in a scoreless game --- a stretch that dated back to an Oct. 23, 2009, game against the Manitoba Moose.

The Wolves and Checkers square off in a rematch at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Allstate Arena.
