Haydar's Pair Lifts Wolves Over Stars, 2-1

ROSEMONT, Ill.---Chicago Wolves right wing Darren Haydar scored twice and goaltender Eddie Lack turned aside 33 of 34 shots as the Wolves defeated the Texas Stars 2-1 Saturday night at the Allstate Arena.

The win snapped a two-game losing streak for the Wolves and marked their second home win of the season.

“We needed a win and we needed something good to happen,” said Wolves Head Coach Craig MacTavish. “The guys battled hard and we hope that this will start to turn things around.”

Chicago (3-4-0-2) jumped on the scoreboard first at the 19:13 mark in the second period. Left wing Bill Sweatt chipped the puck through the neutral zone and broke out on a two-on-one break with Haydar. Sweatt deked the lone defender and slid a pass to Haydar who snapped the puck past outstretched Stars’ netminder Tyler Beskorowany.

The Wolves doubled their lead when Haydar bagged his second of the night at 15:21 of the third period when he flicked a shot from the far circle over the shoulder of Beskorowany.

Beskorowany (1-2-0) stopped 20 shots.

Texas (3-5-0-0) answered with its goal 43 seconds later. Right wing Tomas Vincour held the puck in the near circle and snapped a quick shot past Lack (2-2-2), ending his shutout bid.

The Wolves kick off a five-game road trip with an Illinois Lottery Cup game against the Peoria Rivermen at 7 p.m. on Thu., Nov. 3, at Carver Arena.
